A Little More About Fusion…

Posted by on Nov 3, 2012 in Blog | 0 comments

Fusion Caribbean is a small Christian charity that has been working in West Kingston since 2004. Fusion works with young people (age 12 – 17) and children (age 4 – 11) as well as working with their families, peers, schools, and wider community. This is to encourage change in the external factors that influence these children and young people, while at the same time encouraging internal character development for them as individuals. Fusion works through a voluntary full time team, working alongside part time volunteers, including many of the young people themselves, local church members, local community members and staff from schools and other organizations.
Revelation 7:16-17 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne shall be their shepherd, and shall guide them to springs of the water of life; and God shall wipe every tear from their eyes.

The Purpose of Ministry

The inner city districts of Kingston, Jamaica have been caught up in violence and inter-community rivalries for decades. In addition to poverty, human trafficking, and narcotics, the spiritual state of the church is at an all time low. So the purpose of ministry to the people is to instill spiritual values and a core understanding of biblical principals and teachings. The people are thirsty for truth and the children cling to all of the love that we get to shower on them!

Psalm 42:1-2 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for Thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?

The Next Step

It’s been a difficult but exciting two months as we transition out of one ministry and into another! We have confirmed with our friends in Jamaica with New Generation Christian Camp and Christian Camping International that we will be able to travel down there on June 6th. We have purchased tickets and God has provided a furnished apartment right next to the main office in Kingston which will be our home base. For the following three months we will be involved in several parts of the ministry. We will be on the counseling staff for July and August and for the remainder of the time there we will be travelling throughout the country seeing all the different camps and noting how they operate in the environment and culture. We will also be assisting them with creating promotional videos and material for CCI and New Generation. We are so excited about all God has taught us through this difficult time in our lives and rejoice in knowing that His will is being carried out in our lives. Additionally, we are prayerfully considering the possiblity of producing a feature-length documentary on the World Christian Movement. The intent would be to share the film with the global church in order to bring about an awareness to the unity and purpose of God’s mission to unreached people around the world. Upon completing our initial three month commitment to New Generation and CCI, we will be able to share more detail about the direction God is leading us regarding this project. Please be praying for us as we seek to honor Him with our skills, passions, and lives! We have enjoyed spending time with our home church, Crossbridge, our family and friends! We appreciate your continued prayer and support for us as we strive to honor God by spreading His gospel! “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all!” (2 Cor. 13:14)

In Christ Alone,

Clay & Ashley Vaughan

A Time of Testing & Transition

God is in control… He has an incredibly perfect plan. He orchestrates everything for His glory and for the good of those who love Him, we have been called according to His purpose! (Rom. 8:28) As we seek to honor Him and love Him with our lives, we open up a new chapter in our ministry. Due to a conflict within the ministry in Haiti that was irreconcileable and unhealthy for us to continue to be a part of, we have chosen to leave Jacob’s Well. So what does that mean for us? Where will we go next? God has continued to give us a passion and calling for Christian camping internationally, specifically in the Caribbean.

Several months ago, we were made aware about an opportunity to get involved with a well-established, Christian camp in Jamaica.   We made an initial contact with their leadership about making a visit to see how they manage and operate in a similar 3rd world culture and environment. The camp is in Northern Jamaica, near Saint Ann. As of right now it is looking like we will be spending four months with them this summer to assist in their camp program and creating much-needed promotional videos and photos. We’ll be making those final plans with them in the next couple weeks. During our time there, we will cautiously and prayerfully evaluate the ministry regarding future opportunities. Likewise, they will look at us and see if we will be a good fit with their ministry long-term.

Our passion and heart is still for the people of Haiti. We still have a passion for Christian camping in Haiti. But we believe that at this point, it would be wise to spend a period of time serving in a place where we can learn and gain valuable experience in order to best answer God’s call. We intend to travel to Jamaica near the end of May, and will send out another email with more information about what life will be like for us and what we will be doing. Ashley and I are incredibly excited about where God is clearly leading us. If you would like to learn more about the camp we will be partnering with in Jamaica, its name is “New Generations Christian Camp” and you can read more on their website at newgeneration-jm.org.
